The ocean is powerful…In many parts of the world, local folklore predicts that out of a certain number of waves, one will be much larger than the rest ~~”every seventh wave” is one common belief that has entered popular culture through music and literature. There is some scientific basis for these ideas, along with a cultural fascination with the number 7. This hat begins with a wavy rib reminiscent of seaweed being pushed below an undercurrent of small waves, with 6 larger waves breaking the surface above.
Rowan Lima (109 yds/50 g) – 2 skeins Main Color (MC), 1 skein Contrast Color (CC), or other worsted yarn that will give you the gauge required.
♥ Needles – For smaller size you will need one 16” 4.50mm (#7 US) circular needle, one 16” 5.00mm (#8 US) circular needle, and one set of 4 or 5 double point needles (DPN) in #8 US, or appropriate size to achieve gauge.
For larger size you will need one 16” 5.00mm (#8US), one 16” 5.50mm (#9 US) circular needles, and one set of 4 or 5 DPN’s in #9 US, or appropriate size to achieve gauge♥ Stitch Marker
♥ Cable Needle in size equal to or smaller than working needle.
♥ Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Small/ Medium will fit 19-22” head circumference.
Large will fit 22-24” head circumference.
For Small/ Medium: 22 sts per 4” in Stst using 5.00 mm (#8 US) needles, or size to achieve gauge.
For Large Adult: 20 sts per 4” in Stst using 5.50mm (#9 US) needles, or size to achieve gauge.
