The cabled rib is a simple 4 row cable using green to make Swallowtail Caterpillars, adding
duplicate stitch for the colorful detail when the hat is finished. The Swallowtail Caterpillars
symbolize transformation.
Materials: Fingering (approx 165 meter/181 yds/50 g) –1 skein for each color of the Rainbow (purple,blue, green, yellow, orange, red), 1 skein of brown to symbolize soil (Earth), and a smallamount of black for duplicate stitch on the Swallowtail Caterpillars. Yes…this is a lot of yarn, but you can make many of these hats because you will be using only a small amount
of each color.
Needles: 3.00mm (#2-1/2 US) 16” circular needle, and one set of 3.00mm (#2-1/2 US)  double point needles (DPN), or appropriate size to Stitch Marker
Cable Needle in size equal to or smaller than working needle.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Sizes : Small 16-18”, (Medium 18-20”, Large 20-22”) head circumference
Gauge : 28 sts per 4” in Stst using 3.00mm (#2-1/2 US) needles in the round, or size to achieve gauge.
