Gnomes tend to live in hilly meadows and rocky woodlands. All of the animals in the forest are the Gnome’s friends, for the male gnomes are guardians of animal kind, known for setting wildlife free from man’s traps. They are mostly peaceful beings ~ 7 times stronger than a man and have better eyesight than a hawk. Averaging only 15 centimeters tall, and living on a vegetarian diet, I like to imagine them fashioning hats from the very food they eat. The Nightshade family includes Peppers and Eggplant…knit this hat in red, yellow or green for a Hot Pepper hat or knit it in a deep purple for an Eggplant hat. Knit in the round from the top down, the Nightshade Gnome Hat knits up quickly in one piece.
Size: 16-18”, (18-20”, 20-22”) head circumference.
Materials: Malabrigo Worsted Merino (216 yds, 3.5 oz) ~ 1 skein Main Color (MC), and only a small amount is needed for Contrast Color (CC) – I used less that .2 oz from a full skein of Malabrigo .
♥ Needles ~5.00mm (#8 US) Double Point Needles (DPN), one 16” 5.00mm (#8 US) circular needle, and one 16” 4.50mm (#7 US) circular needle, or appropriate size to achieve gauge.
♥ Stitch Marker ~ for marking beginning/end of round.
♥ Locking Stitch Markers ~ for holding live stitches
♥ Tapestry needle ~ for weaving in ends.
♥ Sewing needle and thread ~ for stitching the Calyx to the hat.
Gauge: 20 sts per 4” in Stst using 5.00 mm (#8 US) needles, or size to achieve gauge
