There is common lore about the gecko that involve luck and regrowth. Other symbolisms include the release and regeneration of the gecko’s tail. This is representative of the self preservation and regrowth people go through after trials or hardships. The traditional gecko circle represents the cyclical nature of life. It is this gecko circle that is captured on this Chullo, a hat that has been worn in the Andean Mountain region since pre-Hispanic times.
Materials :
Berroco Ultra Alpaca (215 yds/100 g) : 1 skein MC – Dark Brown, 1 skein CC1 – Medium Brown, 1 skein CC2 – Green
♥ Needles – For Small: one 16” 3.75 mm (#5 US) and one 16” 4.25 (#6 US) circular needle, and one set of 4 or 5 double point needles (DPN) in larger size.
For Large: one 16” 4.25 mm (#6 US) and one 16” 4.50 mm (#7 US) circular needle, and one set of 4 or 5 double point needles (DPN) in larger size.
♥ One 6.00 mm (J) Crochet Hook if you will be making braids.
♥ Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
♥ Stitch Marker Gauge : Small: 22 sts to 4” in stockinette stitch using size 4.25 mm (#6 US) needles, or appropriate size to achieve gauge.
Large: 20 sts to 4” in stockinette stitch using size 4.50 mm (#7 US) needles, or appropriate size to achieve gauge.
Size : Small hat fits 21-22” head circumference, Large hat fits 23-24” head circumference
