FT214 Nanny Meier’s Tea Cozy
Design by Amelia Carlson
Nanny Meier’s cosy takes center stage in our photo. Knit in many colours, her cozy was obviously made from scrap yarn left from other long ago knitting projects. The firmly knit ruffles create a thick, thermal effect which is very practical for keeping your tea nice and warm. Using Nanny Meier’s cosy as a guide, we increased the gauge slightly, sized it to fit 3 sizes of tea pots and have shown two planned colour combinations along with her original.
Sizes: To fit 2 (4, 6) cup tea pots.
Yarn Requirements: Due to the thermal construction of the stitch pattern this cosy will use more yardage than you might expect.
275 (325, 375) yards, (250 (297, 242) meters) of DK or light worsted yarn.
This is the total yardage required. For the 2-colour cosies, purchase half this amount of each colour.
For a scrap yarn cosy, the more the merrier. Just divide each colour into two equal amounts if you want the two sides of your cosy to match.
Needles: US size 5 (3.75mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge:
22 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
32 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in pattern stitch.
